Engaging disadvantaged young people in nature and conservation through photography

Wild Shots Outreach (NPO#190 584) was founded in November 2015 and won the SANParks’ Kudu Award for “best environmental education and capacity building programme” in November 2017. Neville Ngomane from the WSO Media Team won Young Environmental Photographer of the Year in 2019 with his image “Desperate measures”.
The programme prioritises high school students from government schools and unemployed youths, bordering the Kruger National Park.  It teaches new skills, providing a “focus” and introduction to the natural world and helps inspire and raise the aspirations of these learners – Africa’s conservationists of tomorrow.
Since the programme commenced, we have run more than 70 programmes with over 600 student graduates.

WSO has placed some of its most talented students in internships, work experience and employment. The award-winning film “Beyond the Fence” features 3 graduates of the WSO programme.
